Dr Albert Schweitzer in London
Oct. 10, 1955 - The world famous Dr. Albert Schweitzer meets his friends - in a London Teashop; Dr. Albert Schweitzer who renounced fame and fortune as a musician 43 years ago sat in the back room of a London tea shop owned by his Swiss restaurateur friend Mr. Emile Metter - to meet some of his famous friends. He will be visited at the teashop by such people as Dr. Vaughan Williams; Bertrand Russell the philosopher - Augustus John the artist and teh Dean of St. Pauls Dr. Schweizer is to go to the Palace tomorrow where he will receive the Honorary award of teh Order of Merit from H.M. The Queen (The award is Honorary as Dr. Schweitzer is a French Citizen)Dr. Schweitzer who is 80 gave up his life as a musician to spend the rest of his days in the care of jungle lepers. He has received more than 300 requests to give an organ recital - as he is claimed to be the world's greatest exponent of Bach.
