Senate Crises In West Berlin: On January 15th. 1981 the Governing Mayor of West-Berlin, Dietrich Stobbe, was forced to retire with a grievous, very surprising voting defeat in the chamber of deputies. Together with Stobbe also all senators retire from their post. With his retirement Stobbe drew his political conclusions from the breakdown of his rough draft for the reshuffle of the senate, which became necessary because of an architectural scandal at the elections. However, the four SPD candidates were defeated. As Stobbe's successor the SPD sends the West German Minister of Justice, Dr Hans-Jochen Vogel (picture), the former Mayor of Munich, into the running. But Vogel's election for the Governing Mayor of Berlin is not certain. On January 22nd the voting will take place in the Chamber of Deputies, and for a success Dr. Vogel needs the votes of coalition partner FDP, which have been denied to Dietrich Stobbe
