Dr Helen K Porter, Imperial College of Science and Technolog

Feb. 02, 1959 - First of her kind.: Dr. Helen K. Porter has become the first woman to hold a chair - that of Plant Physiology - at Britain's Imperial College of Science and Technology. A fellow of Britain's distinguished Royal Society since 1956, the twelfth woman to receive such a fellowship in the Society's 300 years, Dr. Porter spent a year in the United States just after World War II studying enzymological methods at Washington University, St, Louis, Missouri.
