Jan. 01, 1957 - DUKE OF EDINBURGH OPENS INTERNATIONAL GEOPHYSICAL YEAR ON TELEVISION. H.R.H. The DUKE OF EDINBURGH was the central figure at the B.B.C. Television programme - presented last night to officially open the International Geophysical year. A similar broadcast is being made by President Eisenhower in the United States. The Year - actually lasts for eighteen months - and countries from all parts of the world are taking part. Information regarding the outer atmosphere and other unknown phonemena is sought.
