May 05, 1953 - Duke Of Edinburgh Flies From The Palace In Helicopter To Review Commonwealth Troops: The Duke of Edinburgh made an historic flight when he took off in a helicopter from the grounds of Buckingham Palace. He flew to Pirbright to inspect troops of the Commonwealth contingent now in England. Never before had anybody taken off by plane from the Palace.
