Duke of Edinburgh, Tanganyika independence ceremony
Dec. 12, 1961 - Tanganyika gets independence. Duke reads the throne speech Great celebrations were held throughout Tanganyika territory to mark the granting of Independence during the weekend. The constitution was formally handed over by Prince Philip during a ceremony in the capital Dar-Es-Salaam. This marks the end of 42 years of British rule.
