Apr. 29, 1979 - April 29th 1979: 80th Birthday Of Duke Ellington. Duke Edward Kennedy Ellington (left), born in Washington, was without doubt one of the greatest jazz musicians of our time. His special sound (jungle-style, mood-style) made him to the King of Jazz, as a bandleader, composer, arranger and as a solo player on his instrument, the piano, he had triumphs in the music halls of the whole world, over many decades. The black artist died on May 24th 1974, he was awarded in the year 1973 the Medal of the French Legion of Honour. Keystone West Germany
