Oct. 18, 1951 - Dusseldorf, Germany - Duke of Windsor with the first German copy of his biography. EDWARD VIII was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King of Ireland, and Emperor of India from the death of his father, George V, on 20 January 1936 until his abdication on 11 December 1936. Edward VIII had met and fallen in love with a married American woman, Mrs Wallis Simpson. Edward had to choose between the Crown and Mrs Simpson who would not have been acceptable as Queen. In 1937, Edward was created Duke of Windsor and married Wallis Simpson
