Oct. 19, 1937 - Dresden, Germany - After his abdication as KING EDWARD VIII in order to marry an American divorcee Mrs Wallis Simpson, he became Duke of Windsor and settled in France. In the 1937 visit to Germany, much publicised by the German media, the Duke and Duchess were considered personal guests of the Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, which afterwards led to an accusation of them being Nazi sympathisers.
