E II R pillar box blown up in Edinburgh, Scotland
Feb. 02, 1963 - E II R pillar box blown up in Edinburgh, believed to be the work of Scottish nationalists. Scotland's only pillar box which carries the E II R cipher was blown up recently only a few days after an attempt had been made to destroy it with a stonemason's hammer. It was the sixth attempt on the box which was situated on the Inoh Housing Estate, Edinburgh. A bomb had been placed inside the box and the front was blown 30 yards across the main road. Police and Post Office officials believe that ardent Scottish Nationalists who object to the presence of the E II R title of the Queen in Scotland are responsible.
