Earl Mountbatten receives gold medal of merit, Surrey

Oct. 10, 1966 - Earl Mountbatten and Douglas Fairbanks Jnr. Are presented with V.F.H. C-In-C's Gold Medal of Merit: The presentation of Commander-in-chief Gold Medal of Merit and Citation (Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States) to Admiral of the Fleet, Earl Mountbatten of Burma, K.G. and to Captain Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. United States Naval Reserve (retired) by the Commander-in-Chief of the VFW, Leslie M. Fry, took place today at Sutton Place, Surrey, the home of Mr, Paul Getty. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is composed of 1, 350, 000 members throughout the world, and is chartered by the Congress of the United States when its membership consisting of those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces overseas in time of combat. The Commander in Chief Golden Medal Award and Citation is one of the highest individual awards which can be conferred by the National C-in-C of VFW.
