Education for German soldiers, Neu Ulm, Germany

Nov. 11, 1958 - Soldiers as pupils: According to the soldier-maintenance direction of the German Federal Republic every professional soldier has a pretension for school education. So, the first German-Army school was opened in Neu-Ulm, South Germany. Each course for the soldier-students lasts 8 weeks with 38 lessons weekly. (11 lessons = German, 9 lessons - mathematics, 6 lessons = English, 6 lessons typewriting, and two each lessons = geography, history and citizenship). The condition for the permission of beginning the course is to be a volunteer soldier and to have served already two years and also to have finished the elementary school. The aim is to reach maturity as base for a later civil profession. Between the courses is always an interruption of 8 months and the soldiers should make exercises in the meantime themselves that they do not forget what they have already learnt. The lessons are held by experienced persons
