Election of Muhammad Khan as UN President, New York

Sep. 09, 1962 - UN General Assembly Opens Seventeenth Regular Session. United Nations New York, the 17th Regular Session of the General Assembly opened this afternoon at United Nations Headquarters, and elected as its President Ambassador Muhammad Zafrulla Khan of Pakistan, the result of the balloting was 72 votes for Ambassador Khan, 27 votes for Prof G P Malalasekera (Ceylon), one vote for Mr Mongi Slim (Tunisia) and 4 invalid ballots.
