Elizabeth Sprigge, English writer and translator

Dec. 29 New Sprigge Biography. A Lifelong friendship with Dame Ivy Compton-Burnett is the subject of a new biography due to be published early in the new year. The author, Miss Elizabeth Sprigge was a close companion of Dame Ivy and wrote the personal foreword to her last book which was published posthumously. Called The Last and the First, the novel came out recently. Miss Sprigge has written several other biographies, including Gertrude Stein, Jean Cocteau, Dame Sybil Thorndyke and Strindberg. She is also known for her work as a novelist, writer of children's books, translator and lecturer. The biography of Ivy Compton-Burnett is dedicated to another friend Margaret Jourdain.
