Embroidering standards in preparation for Coronation

Apr. 17 Working from small scale guides these seamstresses are embroidering the Royal Air Force squadron standards. It forms a wreathed design of roses, thistles and shamrocks. Preparing for the pageantry of the Coronation: expert embroiderers and seamstresses at Hobson and Sons, of Lexington Street, Golden Square, London are now busy getting out their orders in time for the Coronation ceremonies. Articles they are working on include pipe banners and trumpet banners, the crown and royal ciphers which will be worn on the tunics of the Household Cavalry and the Yeomen Warders of the Tower of London, Drum Major's sashes, and sashes for the Guards, epaulettes in gold cord and various Regimental standards. All these have to be embroidered by hand in coloured silks and gold thread
