Epstein sculpture of Eve in storage in Blackpool
Sep. 09, 1953 - Ice cream man offers Epsteins for sale.: Jacob Epstein, the famous sculptor, said last night: I am disgusted with the commercialisation of my art'. He had just been told that his three-ton alabaster statue of Adam and two more of his masterpieces were advertised for sale. Adam, the 7ft. symbolic interpretation of Man, which infuriated some people and enraptured others, then drew in the thousands as a sideshow, is in store. With him are Jacob and the Angel, and the advertisement. And up in Blackpool where Adam was once a sideshow hit - Epstein's dusky bronze figure of Eve lies under dust covers in the office of an amusement and catering firm. She is for sale too. Photo shows the forgotten EVE - Epstein's masterpiece rests in the Central Beach Office of a Blackpool amusement caterer. She became a general asset when the amusement firm bought out the previous exhibitors
