Nov. 11, 1980 - 70th Birthday Of Eric Malpass: The British writer Eric Lawson Malpass was born on 14 November 1910 in Derby. After his time in the Royal Air Force, he worked in a bank in the East Midlands, and started to write regularly in the evenings. In 1955 he won a short story contest, and in 1960 he won the Italian Palma d'Oro for the best humorous novel of the year, with Beefy Jones'. The greatest success came to Malpass with his novel Morning's at Seven, especially in Germany, where more than 370, 000 copies were sold. Film and TV versions of his stories have also appeared, and he wrote a Shakespeare trilogy, including Sweet Will
