Oct. 12, 1980 - 10Lending The Price Of Peace Of The German Book Trade To Ernesto Cardenal The Price of Peace of the German book trade (endowed with 25, 000 - DMark) was lent to the Nicaraguan priest, poet and political man Ernesto Cardenal on October 12, 1925 in Granada/Nicaragua. After leaving school and the Jesuit college he studied philosophy and literature-science. 1945 promotion. 1949/50 he was in Europe; after returning to his native place, he devoted himself to his literary works. 1954 active participation at the April-Rebellion against Samoza. From 1957-59 he was novice of the poet-monk Thomas Merton, and there he wrote The Book Of Love'. 1959 he began a Study of theology. 1961 he settled in Columbia, went on studying to become a teacher; 1965 he was ordained as a priest at the Cathedral of Managua. 1966 Cardenal founded a Christian community, where he lived till 1977 together with Indians and fishers. 1977 exiled in Costa Rica; 1979 of Samoza, he returned to Nicaragua and became Minister of Education in the government
