Escapologist Alan Alan

Dec 06, 1978; London, UK; Escappologist ALAN ALAN, the only British competitor in this year's Circus Olympics, which start on Clapham Common, was hoisted on a burning rope high above th eThames Bridge today, chained, padlocked, handouffed and suspended upside down. He had two minutes thirty seconds to free himself before the rope burns through and parts. He just made it even though he took 45 seconds more than the limit, due the cold weather. The picture shows him holding the rope after the great escape over the Thames
