Jul. 07, 1954 - Royal Commission on Espionage in Melbourne. Mrs. Petrov says: I lived in Fear of Murder': Mrs. Evdokia Petrov today told how she lived in fear of murder in the Soviet Embassy in Canberra after her husband deserted o the Australian Security Service. An Official and his wife watched her night and day, she told the royal Commission on Espionage at Melbourne. Mrs. Petrov said before she knew anything about her husband leaving Russian service she thought he had been kidnapped. She saw presentations being made for her departure, although she was told nothing officially. She was escorted to her house one day and given ten minutes to pack her belongings. With tears in her eyes, she said she feared that if she showed any sign of planning things she might be murdered in the Embassy. It was of great importance (to the Embassy) not to let her go.
