Euston siding, life and death struggle after train crash
Nov. 07, 1964 - The Life And Death Struggle In A Euston Siding - But The Train Driver Died In the crumpled cabin of a diesel train last night a doctor tried to save the life of the trapped driver. For three hours the doctor gave the driver blood transfusions and pain killing shots of morphine. He held the driver's hand and murmured words of comfort as he guided rescuers who were finally able to lift the driver from the cabin where he had been squashed against the door with a piece of metal in his back. But the battle was lost. The driver, John Allibone, aged 36, died later in University College Hospital operating theatre. The crash happened just outside Euston Station when driver Allibone was sitting in the cabin of his diesel in a siding when another train crashed into him. Engineer David Lindsay was also trapped in the cabin but he was released after 90 minutes. He was taken to hospital for an operation on his leg. Thirty firemen helped to release the men.
