Ex-King Freddie, Kabaka of Buganda, in London
Feb. 25 Ex-King works to help the lonely The Kabaka of Buganda, King Freddie, deposed two years ago in a coup, now living in South East London, is learning to become a social worker in the dockland area of Bermondsey. On the advice of his old army friend, Major Richard Carr-Gomm, the Kabaka, who is 43, has turned his attention towards working among the old, lonely and infirm people in the East End. His work involves visiting the sick, attending the social evenings, and learning the administrative side of a housing and welfare society in the area. Though he finds the work extremely absorbing, the Kabaka still hopes to return to his own country in the near future.
