Examples from David Cove's collection of egg cups
Feb. 29 How To Become An Eggs-Pert': Those of us who don't like having to make too many decisions early in the morning wouldn't want David Cove's breakfast-time dilemma: which one of more than 1, 000 egg cups to eat his boiled egg out of! David, who is a professor of genetics at Leeds University, has egg cups of every shape, design and material - wood, copper, stainless steel, china. He started collecting about 10 years ago as a way of filling empty shelves in his home. Since then he's become quite an eggs-pert on the especially British habit of eating eggs out of cups. It's a habit which he believes may date back 200 years in this country, but didn't really catch on in other European countries until after the Second World War, David's collection from all over the world is still growing although he finds that the more unusual types now change hands for several pounds or more. Anyone else hatching an idea to fill up their empty shelves?
