Excavation around Ancient Conservatory in Greece

Aug. 08, 1957 - Ancient Altar Discovered During Excavations Around The Conservatory - An ancient open altar belonging to a goodness of Ancient Greece - was among the most recent dimes during excavations around the Ancient Conservatory of Herold of Attica. According to Mr. Miliadis - who conducted the excavations -m the altar was dedicated to the Nymph Oritha daughter of the Athenian King Erechtheus. Pollinator was carried off by the God of Winds Boreas and brought to his cave in the Cold Thrace.The altar Orophia is supposed to have been destroyed during the Hellenstic period before 323 - 146 BG. The cave discovered on the western side of the altar must have been connected with the cult of the nymph of the altar who originally was an underground goddess. Among the pieces taken from the cave were about 300, 000 pieces of vases said to belong to the 7th. 8th. 5t and 4th. century Bc. The vases were said to be offering of the atheriane to thier nypah orithia - and bear charactristics reprsenting chariot reaces and meetings of the gods untiol the and of the 6th. century bc. photo shows View of the excavating area in front of the ancient conservatory of heredos of Attica as seen from the acropolis. on left is where the alter of the Nymph was discovered.
