Jul. 17, 1967 - Baby Hippopotamus born at Whirsnade: A young baby Hippopotamus has recently been born at Whipsnade (date of birth 2nd, July) and was on show today. Its weight was approaching 100 pounds and as its sex has not yet been determined the calf will be named later. The mother of the new arrival is Belinda, who arrived at Whipsnade in August 1950 with thee male Henry'. They were both then about two years old. Since then Belinda has produced several calves, many of which have been males. Henry, the father, has not yet seen the baby hippo, andhe will be kept seperate from the mother and calf for some time.
