Jun. 06, 1953 - Conquerors Of Mount Everest Entertained By Sherpas In Calcutta. Colonel John Hunt - Edmund Hillary - Sherpa Tensing and others of the party who conquered Mount Everest - were entertained by the Calcutta Sherpa Community in their Gomba of Monastry. They were welcomed with ponderous fanfares on enormous mountain horns, fed with rich brick tea and plates of rice and raisins, garlanded with flowers and white chiffon scarves and lauded with the gentle compliments that are among Tibet's chief contributions to the art of civilized living.
