Oct. 10, 1955 - Indian Army major beats 300 in treasure hunt challenge; Major Charles Daubrey Pogson, M.C. (Indian Army, retired), joined 300 entrants in search of Druid treasures believed to be buried in Chislehust Caves Kent. It was the result of a challenge issued by Mr. James Gardiner, an authority on buried treasures, and who is certain that Druidical objects are somewhere within the 22 miles of cave networks. He buried and old silver cup filled wit half crowns, and advertised for all and sundry to see who would find it first. Three hundred applicants came and tried all methods, and Major Pogson, who has extraordinary powers of divining found it within minutes, and thus has the job of searching out the Druid secrets. Major Pogson learn the powers of divining from his father and mother when they live in Madras, and eventually was asked by the Bombay Government to make tests for water on a six months engagement, which resulted in he remaining on for ten years in the worst water famine areas with wonderful successes.
