Sep. 29, 1971 - Lady Fleming jailed for 16 months: Lady Fleming, widow of the discover of penicillin, was jailed for 16 months by a Greek military court yesterday for her part in a plot to help a prisoner escape. There were unconfirmed reports that she would be deprived of her Greek nationality and expelled from Greece in a few days. Lady Fleming, 62, was born in Greece, but holds dual British Greek nationality because of her marriage to Sir Alexander Fleming. After the trial yesterday, Lady Fleming made it clear she would fight attempts to deport her. Lady Fleming was sentenced for her part in an abortive attempt to free Alexander Panagoulis, 33, a Greek Army deserter who tried to assassinate the Greek Premier, George Papadopoulos, in 1967.
