May 05, 1972 - 40, 000 fans brave the rain at the three day pop festival at Bickershaw Lancs.: About 40, 000 pop music enthusiasts camped out in a muddy field at the former mining village of Bickershaw, near Wigan, this weekend, as the annual pop festival season got under way. Photo shows sleeping rough did not dampen the enthusiasm of the fans who turned the site into a vast outdoor bedroom
