Mar. 27 De Gaulle Supported Pope John's Sainthood. General Charles De Gaulle, shortly before his death last November, submitted testimony in favour of elevating the late Pope John to sainthood. Rev. Antonio Cairoli, Postulator or proponent of the formal cause for sainthood, reported so. He said the late Franz Von Papen, Germany ambassador in Turkey during World War II, also testified in favour of the last Pope. De Gaulle submitted his testimony in writing to the Archbishop of Paris, Cardinal Francois Marty. Father Cairoli did not reveal Von Papen necessarily had to report a miracle by John in order to back the cause for his sainthood.
