Dec. 12, 1959 - A Police Constable And Three Men Accused Of An18, 000 Bank Raid: 39-year-old Metropolitan Police-constable George Albert Askew was charged with three other men at Waltham Cross, Essex, yesterday of breaking into Chingford's National Provincial Bank and staling cash and jewellery worth18, 103. The men and two women - a mother and daughter were also accused of receiving part of the stolen money. All the accused were remanded for a week, the men in custody and the women on bail.
