May 05, 1968 - Fifteen Feared Dead And 80 Trapped When Part of Block of Flats Collapses. Fifteen people are feared dead and 80 trapped in East London today, when part of a 23-storey block of flats collapsed today. Teams of police and firemen searched the rubble in Butcher's Road, Canning Town. Reports said there had been an explosion just before the south-east corner of the building collapsed.
