Nov. 11, 1968 - Computer Police in 1970's.: A National police computer system is planned for the early 1970's Mr. William Nicoll, Home Office Director of Telecommunications, said yesterday at the police training center at Ryton on Dunsmore, near Coventry. Divisional police forces all over Britain would be connected to the system based on London. The Computer would store facts about wanted people and stolen goods among other information. The information would be available to the radio equipped policeman on the beat withing minutes. In an exhibition at the center was equipment which can transmit a suspects photograph and fingerprints, or an Identikit picture, in less than 15 minutes. Another exhibit was a mobile telephone which beams speech along in infrared beam for distances of up to half a mile. Photo shows a new aid to police work shown yesterday was the Muirhead Mobliefax, which transmits pictures of suspects of patrol cars
