Nov. 11, 1971 - Bridge On The Rhine Near Koblenz Collapses: Nearly 30 yds. of a new bridge currently under construction south of Koblenz to span he Rhine broke in the afternoon and caused the death of at 22 workers, most of them Turkey and Yugoslavia. 12 people were severally injured and some are still missing. The cause of the accident is being investigated - all traffic on the busy river to an instant halt. The construction work is not to be resumed until the official inquiry is completed. Photo Shows rescue workers who arrived with in 5 minutes of the disaster lift one of the injured on to a stretcher
