Sep. 17, 1973 - Mopeds For Traffic Wardens: Traffic Wardens in North London are to ride mopeds to give them greater mobility in their enforcement and inquiry duties. For a three month experimental period, beginning today in 14 specially trained volunteer wardens will be using either Puch Maxi or Mobylette Major machines in the course of their works. If the current project is successful it is the anticipated that the fleet will be expanded rapidly. Initially eight machinese will be in use - four Puch Maxi mopoe and four Mobylette Major mopeds - under the control of the two police Traffic Division Areas at Leytone and Finchley and will be divided between four traffic warden centers. depending on previous experience the volunteer wardens Depending on previous experience the volunteer wardens have undergone training courses of varying length at the Metropolitan Police Driving School, Hendon. All will wear white safety helmets decorated with the familiar yellow band and the Traffic warden badge. Women wardens will be provided with slacks which they may wear while carrying out these mobile duties.
