May 05, 1978 - Bus Enthusiast Gets Caught After Taking 965 Bus Stops: 45-year-old Louis Norris was obsessed with collecting transport mementos, and 13 months he stole 965 bus stop signs, but was finally caught red-handed when a bus inspector spotted him half way up a ladder dismantling a bus stop in Harlow, Essex, the town's magistrates heard yesterday. In a statement to the police Norris explained that his ambition as a private collector was to open a museum. He also added that many old bus stop signs were being replaced so he adopted his own method of obtaining them. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay25 costs.
