Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt (r) congratulates the commander of the GSG-9. Honored with the Federal Distinguished Service Cross in Bonn (FRG) had been 66 women and men. It were crew of the Lufthansa jet Boeing 737, which had been kidnapped by terrorists on October 13th, 1977, and the men of the GSG-9. They had assaulted the jet at the airport of Mogadischu/Somalia on October 18th and rescued the 86 hostages.
