Oct. 10, 1961 - High Award For Ferenc Fricsay: As reward for his great merit especially in the musical life of Berlin, the famous conductor Ferenc Fricsay - already today claimed to be a distinguished successor of Furtwangler - received the great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. On Sept, 24th, Fricsay had an exceptional success at the opening night of the German opera of Berlin, conducting Mozart's Don Giovanni.
