Film Director Marcel Carne 1906 - 1996

Jan. 1, 1973 - Paris, France - MARCEL CARNE's place in film history is assured as the foremost exponent of Poetic Realism, blend of realism, lyricism, and romantic fatalism. He worked in partnership with celebrated surrealist poet and screenwriter Jacques Prevert - the monumental, miraculous Les Enfants du paradis (1945) is widely considered their greatest achievement. The movement had a significant impact on later film movements, in particular Italian neorealism and the French New Wave. Pictured holding Prix de la Reconnaissance (Prize for Achievement)
