Filming at new Catholic Radio and TV Centre, Hatch End

Nov. 28, 1969 - The Ultra-Modern Catholic Broadcasting Studio to be opened by Cardinal Heenan on Saturday: This coming weekend sees the opening of the Catholic Radio and Television Centre at St. Gabriel's House, Oakleigh Road, Hatch End, Middlesex. On Saturday November 29th, Cardinal Heenan, Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, dedicates the chapel and on Sunday, Nov 30th, Cardinal Gray, Archbishop of St. Andrew's in Edinburgh, and Chairman of the Scottish Hierarchy, will bless the studios and lecture rooms. The centre, for its size, is technically one of the most advanced set-ups for radio and TV in the world, and its equipment bears comparison with the best. But it has no transmitter. Its purpose is to make programmes on tape and film - especially for use in developing countries - to train men and women in the use of the new media, to teach religious broadcasting and to act as a sort of backroom for exchange of ideas between broadcasters (whether Catholic or not). The Centre cost £180, 000, and all its finance has come from voluntary contributions. Photo shows Sister Angela operating a television camera yesterday in the chapel of the new Roman Catholic Radio and Television Centre at Hatch End, Middlesex. Being filmed are Father Patrick Shanahan (L) officiating, and Father Agnellus Andrew, Director of the centre, which is to be opened tomorrow by Cardinal Heenan
