Fire eating class, Bim Mason, Oval House, London

Mar. 31 A Burning Desire to Learn. If you've always had a burning desire to have a go at fire eating, there's now a chance for you to learn from an expert. Bim Mason, a 26 year old fringe theatre and clowning performer, is running a weekend workshop at London's Oval House theatre club. It's not an art to be treated lightly, however, as Bim himself has had to give it up one and a half years of practising the skill led to six attacks of Pneumonia, so he now concentrates on teaching aspiring dragons. Bim, who himself learned to eat and blow fire from experienced performers, teaches both, the basic skill, first practising with water and then unlit fuel before lighting up, and the theatrical aspect, the presentation of the act to an audience. Obvious dangers have to be borne in mind such as changing wind direction, being too near to the audience and having a long beard. Not to mention the potential hazard of eating baked beans before performing! Picture Shows: Before telling his class to go to blazes, Bim Mason reminds (L-R) Daniela Ammetta, Eric Boccazzi and Richard Hanssens of the hazards involved
