Firing arrows at the Savoy Hotel, London
Feb. 02, 1972 - THE ARROWS FLY AT THE SAVOY. It's a long time since arrows were shot at the Savoy. In fact the last exact date was in 1246 when it wasn't a hotel at all but just a piece of land by the Thames which was presented by Henry III to Peter, Count of Savoy, who was Queen Eleanor's uncle, for a nominal annual rent of three barbed arrows. It was here that Count Peter built the fayrest mannor in Europe and 650 years later on the same site, London's first luxury hotel - the Savoy, was opened. Today arrows whistled through the air at the first ever Press Conference to be given by the Greeting Card and Calendar Association. Having taken the Lincoln Room at the Savoy for a nominal rent of three barbed arrows, the Association invited a former British champion to shoot them at a giant Valentine card from which emerged two girls dressed in Lincoln Green.
