First British heart transplant team

May 05, 1968 - First British Heart Transplant; A team of leading surgeons last night successfully completed Britain's first heart transplant operation at the National Heart Hospital, Marylebone. The condition of the patient, a 45 year old man was described as satisfactory'. The team was led by Mr. Donald Ross, 45, the senior consultant at the Heart Hospital, who is a former colleague of Prof. Christian Barnard, the South African who performed the world's first successful heart transplant. Mr. Ross's senior assistant were Mr. Donald Longmore, one of the country's leading physiologists, and Mr. Keith Ross, 41, a leading Cardiac surgeon who is unrelated to Mr. Donald Ross.
