Flood damage at Hever Castle, Kent
Oct. 10, 1968 - Drying out a stately home: A mopping up operation is under way at Hever Castle, the Astor family home near Eden bridge, Kent, which was flooded there weeks ago when the River Eden burst its banks. Floodwater rose to 4 1/2 ft. in the ground floor rooms, damaging hundreds of items of antique furniture. Valuable tapestries in the dining hall escaped the deluge by being raised just in time. The drawbridge remained lowered because the new electrical system was put out of action. Photo shows Mr. V.B Potter, the curator, is busy storing the furniture in a marquee before sending it to London for restoration
