Feb. 19, 1962 - British troops help in rescue operations in greatest flood disaster in German History; Six hundred British troops are among the thousands of helpers with assault boats tugs etc. rescuing thousands marooned by the greatest flood disaster in German living memory. They rushed into action late on Saturday after high tides on the Elbe Estuary, piled up by hurricane force winds from the North Sea surged into Hamburg.
