Feb. 29 SOUTHERN BELL employees ready manhole on an island In Miami's Biscayne Bay to receive Western Electric cable being laid from mainland. The cable contains 24 video circuits which will link the Republican National Convention at Miami Beach with Southern Bell's TV Operating Center in Miami. From there, sights and sounds of the convention will be flashed throughout the country over television networks. Western Electric, manufacturing and supply unit of the Bell System, is already on location at Miami, and in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention, providing engineering support and equipment to the Southern Bell and Ialinois Bell telephone companies as well as AT&T's Long Lines Department
