Apr. 05 Crowds Wait At Beachy Head For The Big Crash After 50, 000 Tons Of Chalk Fall Into The Sea.: Police kept watch at Beachy Head today as the cracked cliffs threatened to crash 450-feet into the sea. Crowds of people who stood by were warned to keep clear of the danger where huge gaps have appeared after 50, 000 tons of chalk, loosened by rainfall, crashed into the sea last night. Officials estimate that when this fall takes place it will carry away at least 200, 000 tons of cliff. Photo shows The scene at Beachy Head today showing the danger area where the gaps have appeared and the huge quantity of chalk cliff which is expected to crash into the sea at any moment, In the background is the Beachy Head Lighthouse
