Jun. 06, 1967 - Ford unveils the Comuta - a prototype of an electric city or shopping car: A prototype of an electric, city or shopping car - the first to be designed and developed by a major manufacturer - was unveiled today at Ford of Britain's Research and Engineering Centre, at Dunton Esex. The experimental ear, called Comuta, is only 6ft. sin. long, and has been designed as that three can be parked in the normal meter space'. It has no clutch, no gears and therefore offers automatic driving'. The Comuta has been designed to carry two adults and two children and has a range of 40 miles at a steady sped of 25 m.p.h. and is powered by convential batteries.
