Foreign language teachers in protest at Sony, Tokyo
1974 - Foreign Language teachers stage protest against Sony in Tokyo.: Foreign Language teachers employed at the Sony Corporation's English language schools in Japan, have joined the National Union of General Workers in order to get their support for higher pay and better working conditions since they are unable to come to terms with the giant electronics company. The teachers are demanding 120.00 (Yen 80, 000) more per month on their present salary, plus 45.00 (Yen 30, 000) to meet inflation prices, as well as job security, and an end to racial discrimination in hiring practices, end of discrimination against women teachers, reform of Sony's Language Laboratory education system. The teachers who are mainly American staged their protest meeting at the Kinro Fukushi Kaikan Hall in Tokyo where union members made speeches and a little music was added to liven up the proceedings
