Sep. 09, 1976 - Soccer Player Franz Beckenbauer was awarded the federal distinguished service cross.: Franz Beckenbauer (31), the famous Bavarian soccer player, has been given the Federal Distinguished Service Cross on the Ribbon on September 16th, 1976. The captain of the soccer club Bayern Munchen as well as of the West German national team, which is the world champion since 1974, has been awarded with the Service Cross by the Federal President at the recommendation of the Bavarian Minister President.
